To the editor:

Being personally acquainted, as I am, with the mayor and several of our city councilmen, I have to say that I was surprised and dismayed at their offhand dismissal of the effort by the Citizens for the Preservation of Obici House to save that historic building.

Actually, I expected better of our city leaders.

I know that the Obici House supporters spent a great deal of time and energy developing a good-faith proposal for saving the building. I also understand that it was just a proposal, to be considered and decided upon.

What I don’t understand is why we, the people who want to see the Obici House preserved, have been given no explanation for the city’s decision.

If there is something wrong with the Obici plan, what is it? Or is it in conflict with some other city agenda?

Come on and tell us, guys. What’s the deal?
