Simply Custom, the semi-custom division of Sasser Construction, a Portsmouth-based homebuilder, is building The Tidewater Builders Association Charity House to benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia. The home will be on display at the 2010 Spring Homearama, set for Founders Pointe in Isle of Wight County, May 8-23.

When the home is sold, proceeds will go to the Boys and Girls Clubs to help fund programs aimed at helping at-risk young people succeed in school and realize their potential in life. The agency operates 10 Club Units throughout the region, from Franklin to Exmore on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.

“We’re trying to get contributions from suppliers and the people who are putting the services and the supplies in,” said Mary Prier, spokeswoman for the Tidewater Builders Association.

Tidewater Builders Association and Simply Custom by Sasser Construction are seeking donations of products and services to offset the construction costs for the home. Any materials used to build a home, including paint, mirrors, carpet, doors, windows, faucets, light fixtures, tile flooring, brick and other components are needed. The home is a 3,300-square-foot transitional style home with a first-floor master suite, a two-car garage, and a view of the marsh on Batten Bay.

Sasser Construction, an award-winning company whose Southern Living Idea House is currently on display in Suffolk’s Riverfront community, has a long history of community service. Among other projects, the company built out the Maryview Foundation Health Care Center that provides care for the uninsured and was the lead builder for the 2008 Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build in Suffolk, after building a Habitat Home in the Portsmouth Blitz in 2006.

Each year at Homearama, the proceeds from the sale of a house go toward a charity. The Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters and Boys & Girls Club both have benefited several times.
