To the editor:
I read with interest the article in “Suffolk Scene” March 9, in which Mayor Linda Johnson was pictured with local Girl Scouts receiving the proclamation of Girl Scout Week in our city.
Also shown in the photo was Dr. Sandra DeLoatch. Some members of the community will recognize Dr. DeLoatch and are aware of her leadership and extraordinary accomplishments. During Girl Scout Week we recognize a member of our community who truly exemplifies the Girl Scout principles of courage, confidence and character.
We are proud of Dr. DeLoatch, who manages numerous responsibilities. She grew up on Mahlon Avenue, a tiny street in the South Suffolk community, and is a true example of talent and perseverance, with a commitment to excellence and a passion to “give back” and to help others.
Dr. DeLoatch is completing her first year as Chair of the Board of the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast, having served on the board for eight years. Dr. DeLoatch currently serves as the Dean of the School of Science and Technology at Norfolk State University.
Dr. DeLoatch, your hometown Girl Scouts, leaders, volunteers, and friends of scouting applaud you!
