Booker Jenkins

Booker Leon Jenkins, also known as “B.J.,” 62, of 914 Truman Road, Suffolk, died on April 30, 2010.
He was born in Franklin, Va., and retired from New York Transit. He also worked for the city of Norfolk.
He was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church, and served in the men’s fellowship there.
He also was a member of the Club 55 Senior Bowling League, National Rifle Association, East Suffolk Gardens Civic League, Masonic Lodge of New York, N.Y., and Tiger Riders Motorcycle Club of Suffolk.
He is the son of the late Catherine S. and Booker T. Jenkins.
Booker is survived by four sons: Michael Jenkins, Talario Jenkins and his wife Danisha, Greg Roberts and Thomas Roberts; three sisters; Ellen Jenkins, of Suffolk, Va., Gladys Jenkins, of Warren, Mich., and Sandra Talley, of Forestville, Md.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Max Jenkins, Terry and Catherine Jenkins of Suffolk, Ronald and Roxie Jenkins of Waldorf, Md., Bernard and Betty Jenkins of Canton, Ohio, Jessie and Patricia Grant of Effort, Pa., and Larry Grant of Franklin; grandchildren, Kavon, Alyssa, Tranaee, Daniya and Tale’rah; two aunts, Sarah Mason and Quentilia Boone, both of Newport News; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at Tabernacle Christian Church, with the Rev. Joseph Goode officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Sinai Church Cemetery. Peebles Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends at the home of Ellen Jenkins, 508 Crocker Lane, Suffolk, Va., 925-4280.
