Impact Suffolk is seeking churches to send volunteers and food to the organization’s Thanksgiving Food Giveaway next month.
The event will be held Nov. 20 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Howard Mast tennis courts behind Farm Fresh, 1401 N. Main St. Churches who sign up will be asked to provide 250 15-ounce cans and the volunteers to help distribute them.
“We’ve been doing this since 1997,” Impact Suffolk director Dot Dalton said. “It’s just a blessing for the churches to come together. I know we have over 20 churches already signed up.”
Churches will be asked to donate sweet potatoes, collards and rice. Monetary donations received from churches and individuals will be used to purchase meat to go with the side dishes.
The organization hopes to reach about 1,250 people with the food giveaway this year, Dalton added.
