Honors roll in for past Lady Bulldogs

With more than a month to go in her sophomore season, Georgetown sophomore TaShauna Rodgers (King’s Fork) surpassed 1,000 points in her collegiate career during GU’s 76-52 win at Louisville on Tuesday night.

Louisville led 30-19 at halftime and by as much as 14 early in the second half.

Rodgers scored 13 straight Lady Hoya points, with three three-pointers during the streak, to turn a 37-35 Louisville lead to a 48-40 GU lead in a span of 1:52 during the second half.

Rodgers totaled 26 points, six steals, three rebounds and three assists for the Lady Hoyas (18-5, 6-3).

Georgetown continues Big East play hosting Cincinnati Saturday at 2 p.m.

Chowan junior point guard Ransheda Jennings (King’s Fork) was the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) Division II National Player of the Week for averaging 17.0 points per game in three Chowan victories last week.

Jennings has been the CIAA Player of the Week in women’s hoops two weeks running.

The Lady Hawks ran their winning streak to five games with a 60-40 win over visiting St. Paul’s Monday night. Jennings scored 12 points in the win.

Chowan (10-9, 7-4) is 5-0 and in first place in its division in the conference. HSRN nominates top players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities each week and fans vote for the winner online.

Chowan hosts Virginia State Saturday at 2 p.m.
