An on-duty police officer was injured in his cruiser during an accident in the 100 block of Carolina Road near Fayette Street Thursday evening.
The accident occurred at 8:06 p.m. when, a witness stated, a female driver ran a red light and struck the officer’s vehicle, according to a press release from the city.
The officer received a minor injury to his arm and was taken to Sentara Obici Hospital for treatment. The driver of the other vehicle was also taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries, which were not considered life-threatening.
The accident remains under investigation. It was the second wreck involving an on-duty police officer this week; the first occurred Wednesday afternoon in the 3200 block of Holland Road. That officer also had minor injuries to his arm.
