Up to 200 motorists lined up for free gas at the 7-Eleven on Taylor Road in Chesapeake on Thursday morning. Suffolk-based Northern Star Credit Union took over the gas station, and its employees pumped $4,000 worth of gas to promote how local banks “fuel local economies,” according to a news release. Mary Lee Whitley, who was behind the wheel as Rhonda Carpenter gassed her ride, said she lined up for one and a half hours. “It was too good to pass up, and I’m retired, so I can go around getting free stuff,” she added.
