The Lakeland High School girls’ basketball team kept it close against visiting Hickory High School but fell 48-42 on Thursday night.

Kyiesha Barrett led the Lady Cavs with 13 points, and Nijel Smith joined her in double figures with 11.

Lakeland (0-6, 0-1) will face host Deep Creek High School on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
