A Suffolk grand jury earlier this month indicted a man on charges associated with an alleged attempted murder for hire.

Raquan Darrell Knight was one of 19 people indicted on 43 charges.

Superintendent William C. Smith of the Western Tidewater Regional Jail said the investigation into Knight is ongoing, and as such he could not divulge any details. Knight, who was sentenced to a year in June for robbery, now is charged with two counts each of attempted capital murder by prisoner, attempted capital murder for hire and solicitation to commit murder, as well as one count of obstruction of justice.

Commonwealth’s Attorney C. Phillips “Phil” Ferguson said the investigation began in his office based on another case.

“It involves certain threats and intimidation of witnesses,” Ferguson said. “If there are those who attempt to in any way intimidate witnesses, then we take those matters very seriously, and we will bring whatever charges are appropriate.”

Also indicted was a 24-year-old Suffolk man who allegedly stabbed a Windsor man on Oct. 15.

Benjamin Hassle Wade III, of the 5400 block of Pruden Boulevard, was arrested following the stabbing, which happened late that Tuesday evening on Pruden Boulevard. The male victim, 25 at the time, had multiple stab wounds and underwent surgery at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital that night. City spokeswoman Diana Klink said at the time that the stabbing followed an alleged physical altercation between the two individuals.
