Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:
4Latonia Thomas, sophomore for King’s Fork High School basketball: The young player took advantage of the opportunity for expanded minutes in a busy week, scoring double figures in three straight lopsided wins. She had 11 points on Tuesday against host Phoebus High School, 20 points and seven boards on Wednesday against visiting Lakeland High School and 10 points on Friday against visiting Denbigh High School.
4Travis Jones, junior for Lakeland High School wrestling: He continued his consistently victorious performances in the heavyweight class, despite being significantly lighter than his opponent, and gave his team the deciding points to win on Wednesday. He adapted to an unfamiliar style of wrestling presented by Heritage High School senior Jordan McCree, pinning McCree in 2:49.
4Sabree Clegg, sophomore for Nansemond River High School basketball: She emerged this week as the inside presence her has been needing.
