A Suffolk man was arrested Tuesday on charges of cruelty and injuries to children.

Shamel Keith Dawes, 26, was charged in relation to injuries suffered by his 4-year-old son, city spokeswoman Diana Klink said.

Hospitalization of the child was not required.

Child Protective Services was contacted, and the investigation is ongoing.
