Kevin Sary of the Suffolk Division of Tourism received top honors at the Virgo Awards, presented during the Virginia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus’ spring meeting in Loudoun County recently.
Selected as Virginia’s “Visitor Center Manager of the Year,” Sary was touted by the program’s judges as a professional with “very impressive, multi-faceted strengths and accomplishments,” according to Suffolk spokeswoman Diana Klink.
Sary has been with the Division of Tourism since 2007. He was promoted to his current position of visitor center coordinator in 2010 and oversees the operation of Suffolk’s state-certified visitor center. He also manages the Suffolk Farmers’ Market and oversees the division’s tour program.
Sary counts wearing a bow tie and top hat as part of his duties, as he routinely leads groups through downtown on the 90-minute “Legends of Main Street: A Suffolk Ghost Walk,” which he researched and developed.
“We are extremely fortunate to have such a dedicated professional representing Suffolk in the tourism industry,” Tourism Development Manager Theresa Earles stated in a press release announcing the honor. “Kevin is one of the most hardworking and talented individuals I have ever known. Suffolk is better for having him on our team.”
The VIRGO Travel and Tourism Awards pay tribute to individuals, groups, businesses and destination marketing organizations that significantly contribute to Virginia’s economy through tourism promotion and development, Klink stated in the press release.
