Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:
- Truman Boyd, senior for King’s Fork High School baseball: He was clutch for his team both on the mound and at the plate, while under the pressure of performing at Harbor Park. He got the win on the mound, throwing five strikeouts in little more than three innings. He also produced a two-RBI single that scored the go-ahead run in a 6-5 win over Lakeland High School.
- Carlyne Thorndike, senior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy girls’ lacrosse: She poured in five goals on Monday against host Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School, including the winning one. Despite a 16-6 loss to VISAA Division I host Cape Henry Collegiate School on Thursday, she helped keep her team in the match early, and ended up with two more goals.
- Axel Lopez, sophomore for Nansemond River High School soccer: He continued his role this season as a strong offensive threat for the Warriors by scoring twice to help bring about their 5-1 victory over visiting Smithfield High School on Friday.
