Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:
- Drequan Wilson, junior for King’s Fork High School volleyball: He stepped up tremendously in the Ironclad Conference tournament championship match on Thursday, leading his team with 15 kills to help it defeat Nansemond River High School 25-14, 25-13, 25-12 and repeat as tournament champs.
- Caylin Harris, senior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy volleyball: She put together on Saturday a compelling sequel to her standout 2013 state final performance, helping propel the Lady Saints to a 25-11, 27-25, 25-12 state-championship win over No. 1 Middleburg Academy with her team-high 18 kills. She also had 13 digs, and was outstanding in the state semifinals.
- William Barnes, junior for Lakeland High School football: His stellar defense gave his team multiple opportunities to gain momentum on Friday night against host Grassfield High School. Though the Cavaliers lost 35-21, it did not overshadow Barnes’ impressive performance — his third three-interception game of the season.
