NRHS tops KFHS in the pool

The Nansemond River High School boys’ and girls’ swimming teams defeated their opponents from King’s Fork High School 132-36 and 117-52, respectively, on Saturday at the Great Bridge Swim and Racquet Club.
Creating big highlights for the Warriors were junior Logan Eubanks and the boys’ 200-meter medley relay team. Eubanks qualified for states in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:04.45, good for first against King’s Fork.
Eubanks was also part of the 200 medley relay team that also qualified for states with its time of 1:58.32 that put it in first on Saturday. Eubanks swam the backstroke in the relay, senior Michael Betts swam the breaststroke, senior Donte Cartagena swam the butterfly and senior Cody Edwards swam freestyle.
Standouts for King’s Fork included junior Sonora Curliss who took first in the girls’ 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:27.44 and freshman Grace Merryfield who won the girls’ 400-meter freestyle with a time of 7:02.45.
