King’s Fork High School’s boys’ volleyball team had twin honorees on the All-4A South Region East Section first team and the All-Group 4A state second team.

Receiving the selections were Cal and Cole Bailey, twin brothers in their senior years who helped the successful Bulldogs squad advance as far as the regional semifinals.

“It’s definitely an honor,” Cal Bailey said of the accolades. “Only a few people are selected each year.”

Cole Bailey said, “Going through that process of making first team all-region and second team all-state together meant a big deal to me.”

Cal Bailey agreed, noting he had gotten some recognition last year, but his brother did not.

“This year, to be able to share it with him, it’s definitely special, especially with it being our senior year,” he said.

Contributing to the Bulldogs as a libero, Cole Bailey shared why he thought he was selected for the regional and state honors.

“I guess my ability to keep the ball off the floor and to also help encourage my teammates,” aiding them to keep focused, cool heads, he said.

Filling the critical role of setter, Cal Bailey said he thought he was selected due to his hustle and leadership, operating as one of King’s Fork’s three team captains, and also “being able to set the hitter up for the plays each and every set.”

Cole Bailey said he has recently been asked to play for a local volleyball club and is definitely considering playing volleyball in college.

Cal Bailey said he might play a bit of club volleyball in college, but his primary focus is on baseball.

For girls’ volleyball accolades at the regional level among Suffolk’s public schools, Nansemond River High School junior Camryn Holt made the All-4A South Region second team.
