Seven people were displaced from a home after a fire on Saturday afternoon.

The fire in the 6100 block of Trumpet Drive was reported at 2:28 p.m., according to a city press release. The first unit arrived five minutes later and found heavy smoke and fire coming from an attached garage.

The firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the garage area. The four adults and three children who lived there will be staying with family temporarily, as there is no power to the home, according to the press release.

The family was not home at the time of the fire, and no firefighters were injured, city spokesman Tim Kelley said.

An estimated $50,000 in damage to the structure and contents of the garage was recorded. Holland Volunteer Fire Department personnel backfilled Station 7 during the fire, and Carrsville Volunteer Fire Department responded with a tanker.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office.
