“This is a way to recognize all the things made possible by a great rehab department,” executive director Mel Epelle said. “Nansemond Pointe’s rehab department is the best.”

Guests enjoyed lunch and live entertainment with island-themed decorations. Several former patients shared their thoughts about Nansemond Pointe.

“I’m really thankful to them because now I’m walking and dancing again,” said Reney Olson, who has stayed at the facility twice after two different surgeries. “The physical therapy is amazing. It’s giving me goose bumps.”

Martha Chilton, like Olson, also stayed at the facility after two different surgeries.

“I spent 18 days here the first time and 20 days the second,” she said. “If I have anything else replaced, I will be back here.”

Betty Campbell said she stayed at the facility two years ago after breaking her neck.

“I was really bad off when I came here,” she said. “You were all so good and loving to me. You got me well so I could go back home to my family.”

Larry Riddick, another former patient, was the highlight of the event. He read a poem he wrote in honor of the staff at the facility.
