An outpatient practice that’s been providing mental health services in Suffolk for two years officially opened a second location last week.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1548C Holland Road, Suite 101, marked the expansion of Providence Psychological Services, whose original location is at 129 N. Saratoga St.

“It’s a blessing,” owner Kawanna Ward said. “In a short period of time, we have outgrown that space. But it’s a great location, we decided to keep it.”

The practice offers faith-based, professional mental health assistance to children, adolescents, adults and families. Depression, trauma, delinquency, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and couples are among the many issues it covers.

A licensed clinical social worker, Ward has collected many other training certifications during her 15 years providing clinical, community based mental health services. She says she is passionate about increasing the stability of individuals and families.

While the practice is faith-based — Ward led Friday’s gathering in prayer before cutting the ribbon with Vice Mayor Leroy Bennett — it’s open to anyone, she said, adding, “You would be surprised at the number of people who are non-Christian who come to us, because we make anyone very welcome.”

Bennett said it was wonderful to see a business expand in Suffolk. “We are here to serve and support you, and we wish you much success,” he said.

“We know you are here to serve people … (and) I know the people you serve are very happy to have you taking care of them.”

The practice now employs 10, Ward said.
