In 2011, Simms and his wife Jennie were awarded the American Farm Bureau Excellence in Agriculture Award for their Farm Bureau leadership and active agriculture promotion. They live on his family farm in Sedley.

“Chris understands agriculture and the complexity of modern farming,” said Greg Farmer, president and chief executive officer of Colonial Farm Credit. “We are excited to have his knowledge of financing available to farmers in southeastern Virginia.”
