Player of the Week nominations

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  •  Josh Covington, senior for Nansemond River High School basketball: He was phenomenal late on Tuesday, scoring 10 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter, helping the Warriors rally to defeat visiting Smithfield High School 49-47. He also had six boards, four assists and three steals. Despite a 72-67 conference road loss on Friday, he had 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
  •  Harrison Judy, junior for Suffolk Christian Academy basketball: He was named the tournament MVP for his performance in the recent Eagles Classic New Year’s Invitational Tournament. In the Knights’ 51-48 championship game win, he had 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. In a 56-26 win the day prior, he co-led his team with 12 points to go with six rebounds and a steal.
  •  Amesha Miller, junior for King’s Fork High School basketball: She continued to be a force both as a scorer and a rebounder for the 15-0 Lady Bulldogs. In Friday’s 70-21 home win over Great Bridge High School, she had 15 points and 12 rebounds. In Thursday’s 59-50 road win over Nansemond River High School, she contributed 11 points and nine rebounds.
  •  Jerry Goodman, junior for Lakeland High School basketball: He emerged as a key contributor in a pair of road wins for the Cavaliers this past week. In Wednesday’s 60-49 victory over Western Branch High School, he produced a game-high 19 points. He also had 14 points in the Cavs’ 82-57 win against Woodrow Wilson High School on Monday.
