Suffolk voters on Tuesday picked Hillary Clinton in a landslide Democratic primary election and Donald Trump in a closer but yet decisive race for the Republican nomination.

Clinton bested Bernie Sanders with about 80 percent of the vote to Sanders’ 20 percent in Suffolk. Statewide, she won by a little less. At press time, she had about 64 percent of the vote to Sanders’ 35 percent, with three-quarters of precincts reporting.

On the Republican ballot, Trump won Suffolk with about 39 percent of the vote to second-place Marco Rubio, who had about 31 percent.

Their race was closer statewide, with about 35 percent for Trump and 32 percent for Rubio.

Rubio won six precincts in Suffolk — Ebenezer, Lakeside, Harbourview, Huntersville and Hollywood, where he got four of the 10 votes cast in the Republican primary, as well as the absentee precinct.

Trump won by only two votes — 144 to Rubio’s 142 — in Burbage Grant.

Meanwhile, Clinton bested Sanders in every single precinct, doing best in Hollywood and faring worst in Ebenezer.

A total of 9,455 Suffolkians voted in the Republican primary, along with 9,471 in the Democratic primary.

Suffolk has 51,721 active registered voters.
