Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Maddie McGrath, senior for Nansemond River High School softball: In Wednesday’s 6-0 win over visiting First Colonial High School, she was 2-for-3, with two doubles, two RBIs and one run scored. In Friday’s 5-1 win over visiting Deep Creek High School, she was 2-for-3, with a single and a double. In Thursday’s 16-0 win at Oscar Smith High School, she was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.
  • Logan Montel, senior for King’s Fork High School soccer: She was a major force on offense for the Lady Bulldogs in their opening games of the season. In a 5-1 victory over visiting Indian River High School on Friday, she registered a hat trick. Despite her team’s 2-1 loss on Thursday to host and perennial Southeastern District powerhouse Hickory High School, she scored the Lady Bulldogs’ lone goal.
  • Mitchell Williams, junior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy baseball: He did his job as a cleanup hitter in a big way on Thursday, helping the Saints improve to 4-0 this season with a 12-0 win over host Hampton Roads Academy. He was 1-for-2, hitting a 375-foot grand slam home run. He finished the game with five runs batted in.
