Aéropostale is the latest retailer at Chesapeake Square with plans to shut down.

The company, as part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, on Wednesday announced plans to shutter 154 stores in the United States and Canada. The only closures in Virginia are at Chesapeake Square and New River Valley Mall, in Christiansburg, according to company filings.

A Chesapeake store employee, who declined to give her name, said she didn’t know the store’s final closing date.

Aéropostale is the most recent in a string of Chesapeake Square stores closed over the last two years, including Macy’s, Sears and American Eagle Outfitters.

Chesapeake Square has fallen into foreclosure and was up on the auction block on April 21.

Jones Lang Lasalle America, a leasing and management company, has been contracted to oversee operation of the mall. A company spokesman declined to answer any questions about the mall’s future.
