A two-story garage apartment was declared a total loss following an early-morning fire Thursday.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue and Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department crews responded to the report at 4:29 a.m. in the 1400 block of Bridge Point Trail, according to a city press release. The initial call was for a brush fire in front of a residence, but the volunteers upgraded the call to a residential structure fire when they arrived at 4:37.
The occupant had already vacated the premises before crews arrived.
According to the press release, Capt. Barney Howard of Suffolk Fire and Rescue said crews “found heavy fire showing from the structure upon their arrival and did an excellent job in knocking down the fire.”
There were no injuries. The fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
