If your child has requested a cake shaped like Mickey Mouse for his birthday, you’re in luck with the newest acquisitions to the Suffolk Public Library collection.

The library has launched a collection of specialty cake pans available for those with a library card to check out for up to three weeks. The new collection is part of the year’s #LibraryMade2016 initiative, which focuses on programming and services in the library that encourage creation and making.

There are 28 cake pans in the collection, including designs for popular characters such as Mickey Mouse and Elmo, as well as those for sports and other special occasions. These are perfect for birthday parties, holiday celebrations and more. People who check out a cake pan will also receive a set of baking instructions, and they can view the entire collection and reserve cake pans through the Suffolk Public Library website.

Cake pans aren’t the only non-book items available for checkout. Earlier in the year, Suffolk Public Library introduced Knitting and Crocheting Take & Make Kits, which contain a crochet hook or knitting needles, a project book, a beginner’s how-to DVD, and yarn. In March, the library partnered with the Library of Virginia, Virginia State Parks, and the Science Museum of Virginia to introduce nature backpacks designed to help children and their families learn more about nature.
