Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Sterling McGee, senior, Nansemond River High School soccer: McGee had two goals in a 6-1 Nansemond River victory over rival King’s Fork. He remains Nansemond River’s leading scorer.
  • Darren Daughtrey, senior, Lakeland High School track: Daughtrey ran a time of 14.05 in the 110-meter hurdles in the first Southeastern District outdoor meet of the year. That time is among the best in the state and automatically qualifies him for the 3A state meet.
  • Nicholas Griffin, senior, King’s Fork High School soccer: Griffin scored a goal in the Bulldogs’ 3-0 win over Oscar Smith. It was the first shutout of the season for the Bulldogs.
