Family fun and farm-related shenanigans are coming to Chuckatuck this July.

Chuckatuck Library on Godwin Boulevard is hosting the Chuckatuck Farm Festival on July 15. The lawn games, children’s activities and other farm-themed festivities will begin at 11 a.m. as part of the Suffolk Public Library Sizzling Saturday Series of free, family-friendly entertainment.

“Farm culture is a big part of Suffolk, and we want to celebrate and highlight that aspect,” said Angela Martin, library services coordinator and co-coordinator for the festival.

The Virginia Cooperative Extension Suffolk Unit will hold a workshop on eating healthy through gardens, and Meredith Alphin with Hope for Suffolk will teach a workshop on practical permaculture.

Children will enjoy craft tables, games of horseshoes and cornhole, and the “pig corral” made of balloon animals.

“it’s going to be adorable,” Martin said.

Vendors at the site will include Earth Child, The Neighborhood Harvest, Young Living Essential Oils, Lone Sycamore Farm and the Nansemond Beekeepers Association. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation will also have a table to discuss oyster gardening.

Adults will have their own craft tables to make do-it-yourself, all-natural insect repellent they can take home.

“We try to be mindful of the environment and ourselves, so we’re doing this all-natural insect repellent for your garden,” Martin said.

The band “Tornado Bait” will perform their rock-and-roll, grunge-grass and mountain music tracks live. “Uglyography” will also perform their “quirkadelic” music, with whimsical and funny lyrics aplenty, according to Martin.

There will also prize giveaways, plus free popcorn and slushies while supplies last.

“You can take your whole family and there’s something for everyone,” Martin said. “It’s going to be fun.”
