A family venture is building opportunities for small businesses in Suffolk.

Construction of a 5,000-square foot retail and office building at 5501 Bennetts Pasture Road broke ground on July 31, according to Arthur Bradshaw, owner of Home Video Studio/ProMedia Video Services in Suffolk. Outland Contracting LLC is expected to finish the building in the first quarter of 2018.

The building with have four units available for lease, with Bradshaw’s business set for one of them. He said the building will have a retail design with additional parking spaces and a charging station for electric cars.

The property is owned by BLR of Suffolk LLC. His father and one of the BLR partners, J. Dwight Bradshaw, has operated Bradshaw Dentistry at the site for 40 years this September.

The elder Bradshaw said he had discussed developing available acres on the property with his partner, Ronnie Rountree, for some time.

“The real spark that got us going was that Arthur wanted to move his business out of his house,” he said.

His son’s video production business began in 2010, when he worked part-time from the North Suffolk residence he shares with his wife. Clients come for video editing and to transfer dated media to current digital formats.

“I can take all those formats, including negatives and pictures, and digitize everything for them,” he said.

His growing list of clients made this his full-time job in 2011, and he has since expanded into corporate assignments and aerial photography with drones as a licensed UAV pilot.

With passing cars on Bennett’s Pasture Road and regular patients at his father’s dental office, this project will give other small businesses the same opportunity to grow and get more exposure in the community, he said.

“We feel that we are in a great location, and will be able to provide a great space for any business that is looking to get more exposure and grow their business,” the younger Bradshaw stated in an email.
