New ‘Hub’ for events and celebrations

When Kaitlyn and Cory Vance were planning their October wedding, the Carrollton couple wanted a space that could accommodate her unbridled plans for an exciting reception.

That’s why the couple and guests drove less than a mile after their ceremony at the Riverfront at Harbour View community to the Hub 757.

More than 200 guests congregated in the auditorium of the new facility to see the couple walk in with bridesmaids and groomsmen dressed in lit-up skirts and vests and an appropriately electric theme song.

“It was a Disney-themed wedding, and I didn’t just want to show up to my reception, I wanted to arrive,” Kaitlyn Vance laughed.

The $10.1-million, multi-purpose facility opened on Dec. 1 for the Believers Church congregation based in Western Branch. Kaitlyn Vance’s father, Mark Kent, is adult ministries pastor there.

The facility features a catering kitchen, café and day school. It’s where the church holds Oak & Lily Academy preschool, kindergarten and before- and after-school care, and there are also rooms to serve families with special needs.

Mitchell said the National Institute for Learning Development rented space for a regional conference and training workshop in November. On Saturday, the church held a Christmas marketplace that accommodated 30 vendors selling “a little bit of everything,” she said.

“I see us as a great resource for people looking to have celebrations in a venue that’s close by,” she said.

For the facility’s first major event, Kaitlyn Vance used all of her wits and experience as both a competitive dancer and musical theater teacher.

The stage held a musical montage with nods to “Beauty and the Beast,” “Singin’ in the Rain,” “Mary Poppins” and more. There was even a lip-sync battle between the bride and groom, she said.

Theatrical lighting and sound worked like a charm on stage, she said, and she also liked the sheer amount of space between the cocktails in the lobby and dinner in the auditorium.

“It was easy to transition from one space into the next,” she said. “We just walked in and everything was ready to go.”
