A big first inning by the Bulldogs pushed them to their win over the rival Cavaliers.

The Bulldogs baseball team scored eight runs in the first inning to pretty much seal their 11-2 win over Lakeland High School. King’s Fork High School swung the bat well, as they collected 16 hits. Aiden Gay handled pitching duties for the Bulldogs and struck out six batters while allowing seven hits. Cody Anderson and Andrew Kelley both pitched in the Cavs’ loss Tuesday afternoon.

Mason Brown went 4-4 with two runs and an RBI, while Juan Marrero went 3-4 with three runs and two RBIs and a double. It was a good total team effort for a King’s Fork team that didn’t quite play as well as they wanted to in their last game with their other cross-town rival, Nansemond River High School.

“We played well,” Marrero said. “Overall, our defense was better, and our bats were active. We are working very hard with our coaches to improve every day. We definitely bounced back well, and we are looking forward to building on this.”

Tyler Spencer went 2-4 with one run for Lakeland. Anderson also had a triple to go along with his pitching duties.

King’s Fork will face Indian River High School at home at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Lakeland will face Hopewell High School at home at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
