Chip Wilkinson originally painted the mural on Main Street 20 years ago. With the help of Tammy Hinkle, he is now repainting it. Wilkinson shared that all the people in the mural are painted from real people who were business owners or merchants on Main Street 20 years ago.

“The Black guy on the far right, he was the owner of the market.” Wilkinson said.

Wilkinson has painted other murals in the area, including one in Franklin. The customer at the market is a businessman who is also portrayed in a mural in downtown Franklin. Most of the cost of supplies is being covered by citizens’ donations. Wilkinson currently lives in North Carolina.
