The Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts is hosting a Nov. 19 event to honor veterans and active-duty military.

SCCA officials said the event is to show appreciation for their sacrifice to keep America free and to thank them for their service to the country.

Red, White and Brews festivities are downstairs at the center, featuring a honky-tonk vibe, great music, and a special Veterans Day inspired craft brew by Nansemond Brewing Station.

Suffolk Center’s new neighbor Da’lish Restaurant will have its signature smokehouse grub available for purchase.

The Cool Tones deliver classic rock, with crowd favorites by Van Morrison and Steely Dan. Tim Daniel said the band’s favorite song to perform is Neil Young’s classic “Cinnamon Girl.” He added that they are excited to be playing in honor of veterans.

Stolen delivers its acoustic everything style. Patrons will love hearing favorites by Tom Petty, Johnny Cash and Jimmy Buffet. Win Winslow shared that the band’s favorite song is Jamey Johnson’s “In Color,” but no show would be complete without the Zac Brown Band’s “Chicken Fried.”

As part of the event, the winner of the Suffolk News-Herald’s drawing from its Military Superheroes special publication will be honored. The winner, drawn at random from the submissions by the newspaper, receives free tickets and will have the opportunity to read the submission during the veterans event, according to D’Arcy Weiss, marketing manager at the Suffolk Center. Copies of the newspaper’s Military Superheroes section will be available at Red, White and Brews.

Red, White and Brews tickets are: $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Veterans and active-duty military save $5 with code “thanks” and receive a special gift at the event valued at more than $15.
