Applications are now being taken for the 10th session of the Suffolk Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy.

The 12-class course, which will run from Sept. 3-Oct. 3, will include field trips to several places, including the Mills E. Godwin Court Complex, the firing range, Western Tidewater Regional Jail, and a demonstration by the police department’s dive team.

The class will meet from 6:30-10 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday at the Suffolk Police Department’s headquarters, 120 S. Wellons St.

Also, two classes will be held on Saturdays.

There is no charge to participate in the academy.

Participants must be over 21 and live or work in Suffolk.

Applications can be obtained from the following locations: Suffolk Police Department headquarters or any precinct, any branch of the Suffolk Public Library, Suffolk Animal Control, or at the Municipal Center’s front desk. It can also be picked up at several retail stores, including Farm Fresh, Food Lion, Fresh Pride, and Wal-Mart.
