The Suffolk Police Department is investigating a written threat against Lakeland High School, according to police and a letter from Lakeland Principal Douglas Wagoner.

“Suffolk Police have been made aware of a threat on social media involving Lakeland High School and is currently investigating,” the police department’s Facebook page stated. “School Administration has also been made aware.”

Wagoner wrote in a letter to parents that the threat was discovered Wednesday morning.

“The threat was specific to particular students but broadly reference the entire school as well,” he wrote. “Those specifically mentioned and their families have been notified.”

Wagoner said the note did not indicate when, where or how the threat would be carried out and added any social media posts indicating those specifics are unfounded.

“At this time, we have been unable to determine who wrote the note or when the note may have been written,” he wrote.

He added the school continued operation under normal conditions throughout the day and would do so again Thursday.

“We are thankful that our student body has reported this to us, not only at the outset, but throughout the day as social media posts became known,” Wagoner said. “We continue to place safety as our number one priority and investigate all threats thoroughly.”

He added that people with information that may be helpful in the investigation should contact the school or email Wagoner at douglaswagoner@spsk12.net.
