A few thoughts about Sharon Harris

With the Suffolk School Board elections coming up, I’d like to share a few thoughts about Whaleyville Borough incumbent, and my friend and neighbor, Sharon R. Harris. This Rutgers graduate, a retired 31 year veteran U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Four and former Military Intelligence instructor, has transitioned “From Serving Our Country…..To Serving Our Children.”

Her son, a grandson (who is autistic), and a granddaughter, Ryan, a Lakeland High and recent Va. Tech grad, all graduated from Suffolk Public Schools. Three other grandchildren currently attend school in Suffolk.

As a stakeholder, Mrs. Harris demonstrated her strong community service skills when she “actively went to bat” for her Hall Place neighbors, when their quality of life was being threatened by a few people who were pushing for unwanted changes that would have put strains on a lot of people, many of modest means.

With the added roles of Kiwanis Key Club sponsor for King’s Fork High School and counselor for 4H Camp and 4H Congress, she is quick to tell you that “It’s all about the children.” She visits different schools on a weekly basis.

Instead of purchasing and putting out signs for the upcoming election, she chose to use that money to help provide materials for needy kids at the start of the new school year. Sharon Harris cares deeply about the hopes and dreams of all Suffolk kids and has their best interests at heart. Let’s re-elect her so she can continue the excellent work she is doing.
