Dollie Mae White Hudgins was one of eight children, born June 24, 1939, to the late Mary Jane White Mizzelle and Silas White of Suffolk. She departed this life on Nov. 30.

After graduating from East Suffolk High School in 1955, she attended Elizabeth City State Teachers College (now known as Elizabeth City State University). After leaving Suffolk she moved to Brooklyn, N.Y. She attended the Brooklyn Campus of New City State University. She was later employed with American Telephone and Telegraph Company for 27 years. She joined Concord Baptist Church of Brooklyn, N.Y.

Dollie was joined in marriage to the late Bobby Hudgins on Oct. 9, 1957. In the marriage there were born two children, a son, Robert Adrian Hudgins and a daughter, Aisha Marie Hudgins Perry; a stepson, Desi and adopted daughter, Lakeisha Broady.

She leaves to cherish her memories, one son, Robert (Connie); daughter, Aisha (Anthony); grandchildren, Quantae, Quan, Daesha, Savantae Candra, and Jaylen; her sisters, Katherine Joe, Annie Kindred; brother, William White; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Fond memories of her will also be cherished by her best and devoted friends whom she cherished, Thelma Copeland, Louise Copeland, Sarah Cuffee, and Rev. Dr. Madelene Beard.

Dollie loved children. Through her home passed several foster children. She was a very active member of the Foster Parents Association until the time of her illness. To know her is to love her. A gentle giant, she helped children.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, Dec. 4, at Zion United Church of Christ by the Rev. Dr. Madelene Beard. Entombment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
