Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s volleyball program honored five seniors Tuesday night before their last home match against Bishop Sullivan Catholic.

In the match, the Crusaders completed a regular-season sweep of the Saints, winning 25-22, 25-16, 25-12 to go with their September victory over NSA.

Prior to the match, though, head coach Randolph Davis congratulated Brandon Whedbee, Zach Irby, Andrew Breedlove, Ashton Lewis and Patrick Clark for, &uot;all they’ve done in helping volleyball grow here.

&uot;We truly appreciate all the efforts of our seniors through this year and past years,&uot; Davis said.

For the night’s match, NSA played confidently early and led through most of game one.

Two Whedbee kills and a Whedbee solo block, all within the span of four points, gave NSA a 15-9 lead.

After a long rally, Clark, instead of his usual setting, dinked a kill for the Saints, pushing the lead to 20-13.

BSC scored the next eight points in a row after Clark’s point to take the momentum and a few points later, game one away from the Saints.

In the last two games, the Crusaders took big early leads and NSA could not regain their good play of game one.

Clark tallied 12 assists while Whedbee had nine kills and Matt Hamlet had six kills.

The Saints (5-8, 2-4) finish out their regular season schedule tonight at 6 p.m. at Greenbrier Christian; the TCIS Tournament will begin Wednesday, Nov. 2 with NSA playing on the road against a foe not yet determined.

Should NSA win their first round match, the semifinals and championship will be Friday and Saturday evening at Norfolk Christian.

Over at Catholic, NSA’s girls came out on the good side of a sweep, rolling past the Lady Crusaders 25-18, 25-20, 25-12. Minka Foster, Michelle Boucher and Alexis Taves combined for 15 kills in the win. The Lady Saints will play their own &uot;Senior Night&uot; game tonight against Greenbrier.
