After going winless in their first eight games this season, King’s Fork continued to turn things around Wednesday, roaring past visiting Indian River 4-0 for the Lady Bulldogs’ second-consecutive win and first shutout. Whitney Witt scored two goals in the victory.

&uot;We’ve really stepped up our intensity and our want to win,&uot; Witt said. &uot;We don’t want to be known as a team that’s easy to beat; we want respect.&uot;

Though Fork held a 24-6 shooting advantage, River kept them out of the goal for the first eight minutes until Ashley Pinzon put the Lady Bulldogs on the board with 16:34 to go. Witt whacked in an assist from Kelsey Ewell at the seven-minute mark, and Mary Rose gave her another five minutes into the second half. Catie Dugan scored Fork’s last goal with 10 minutes remaining.

The Lady Bulldogs have their toughest task next Wednesday, when they’ll go for their first-ever intra-Suffolk win, against Lakeland. The Lady Cavaliers took a shutout win Wednesday, as they defeated Deep Creek 7-0 with Sara Mazzone, Erica Rimasse, Nicole Klee, Kaity Byrum and Kelsey and Lindsey Cutchins all scoring. Lakeland goes to First Colonial Friday.

Nansemond River edged host Western Branch 1-0 when Ashley Aston whacked in an assist from Katelyn Yandle in the second half. River hosts Grafton Wednesday.
