NSA beats PCS in the snow

Playing eight-game pro sets because of cold temperatures and snow throughout the match, the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy boys’ tennis team beat Portsmouth Christian School 8-1 at home on Thursday.

The Saints move to 3-1 for the season, and Portsmouth Christian fell to 0-2.

Singles results were as follows:

  • Ryan Zirkle (PC) d. Corey Cutright (NS), 8-2
  • Tucker Firnstahl (NS) d. Sam McCune (PC), 8-1
  • Jackson DeMello (NS) d. Joel Jeffers (PC), 8-1
  • Preston Firnstahl (NS) d. Tyler McCombs (PC), 8-2
  • Nathan Pharr (NS) d. Brian Robertson (PC), 8-0
  • Ryan Witherow (NS) d. Steven Pitts (PC), 8-5

Doubles results were as follows:

  • Corey Cutright and Tucker Firnstahl (NS) d. Ryan Zirkle and Sam McCune (PC), 9-7
  • Jackson DeMello and Preston Firnstahl (NS) d. Joel Jeffers and Tim Torres (PC), 8-0
  • Nathan Pharr and Ryan Witherow (NS) d. Brian Robertson and Kyle Geissinger (PC), 8-5
