Virginia Military Institute sophomore pitcher Taylor Edens was named the Crons Brand Big South Pitcher of the Week on Monday following his performance on Feb. 25 that helped the Keydets defeat host and No.-1 ranked University of Virginia.

It was the first time in his career Edens had earned the honor and the first time since 2007 that VMI had drawn the honor in back-to-back weeks, as Edens’ teammate, Reed Garrett, won the week before.

The 3-2 win over U.Va. marked the first time VMI had defeated the Cavaliers on their home field since 1990.

Edens, an alum of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, pitched five innings, allowing only one run, scattering a pair of hits and throwing one strikeout en route to earning the save.
