The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy girls’ basketball team recovered from a loss on Monday to win two straight, finishing 2-1 during its time in South Carolina.

The Lady Saints outscored Charlotte Latin School from North Carolina 63-38 on Wednesday to win the third-place consolation game in the 2015 Seahawk Holiday Classic at Hilton Head Island High School.

Contrary to an erroneous report in Wednesday’s edition, the Lady Saints lost 33-31 to Niceville High School from Florida on Monday, a defeat which sent them to the consolation bracket for the remainder of the tournament.

On Wednesday, NSA jumped out to an 18-2 lead against Charlotte Latin in the first quarter, and the Lady Hawks were never able to recover.

Senior Harper Birdsong of the Lady Saints had a game-high 29 points on 80-percent shooting from the field. She also had six rebounds, three assists, two steals and made the all-tournament team.

This was particularly true on Wednesday, when Harrell had 10 points, a team-high six assists, three rebounds and three steals, while Knierbein added seven points, seven boards and four steals.

Junior Kelly Hogan also had a strong tournament. On Wednesday, she produced nine points and two assists, while leading the Lady Saints with nine rebounds and five steals.
