Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s softball team defeated Kenston Forest Academy in a double-header Wednesday afternoon.

NSA went on the road to complete a game was called due to lighting on March 18. They picked up that game in the fifth inning, and NSA came out with an 8-7 win.

They followed up with another five-inning game, which the Lady Saints won 4-3 on a walk-off double by Addy Greene. With the win, the Lady Saints move to 7-2 on the year, but Lady Saints coach Brittany Thornburg believes there is still room to get better.

“Our play so far has kind of been up and down,” Thornburg said. “The game before, we came out flat against Great Bridge and barely made any adjustments at the plate. However, it was great see the girls hitting again against Kenston Forest.”

Thornburg likes the fight and grit her team has. In the second game against Kenston Forest, the Lady Saints didn’t get on the scoreboard until the bottom of the fifth inning. They were down 3-0 prior to that, but they kept fighting to give themselves a chance to stay in the game, and they won.

“I’m really proud of us,” senior Madison Currin said. “I think we have been playing well, especially since it’s early in the season. “I expect all of us to improve and learn with each game that we play.”

NSA will start conference play at home against Norfolk Collegiate at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. On Wednesday, they will take on Southampton Academy at home as well at 4:30 p.m.
