Nansemond Suffolk-Academy’s baseball team defeated Portsmouth Christian High School last Saturday to record a win for its last home game of the season.

Four NSA pitchers all played a part in the 5-0 no-hitter. Nic Psimas got the win at pitcher for the Saints. In the three innings he pitched, he didn’t allow a run or a hit.

Two NSA seniors, James Mullin and Mitchell Williams, were honored before the game last Saturday. Mullin finished the game going 1-1 from the plate and pitching two innings with no hits or runs allowed. Williams had an RBI on the afternoon.

“James and Mitchell have been fantastic for us,” Saints coach David Mitchell said. “I’ve had a great relationship with them the past six years. Both of those guys have meant a lot to our program. Those two guys are like an extension of our coaching staff. It’s like having two coaches on the field. They are two phenomenal young men on and off the field.”

Before last Saturday’s game, the Saints were on a three-game losing streak. NSA is now tied for fifth in the VISAA Division II poll this week.

“Getting the win on Saturday made the whole experience that much better,” Mullin said. “It was nice to see the team get pumped up and play well. We needed that win, and I think we gained a lot of confidence from it.”

NSA will play three games this week. They will play Walsingham Academy on the road Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
