Despite having to deal with a foot of fresh snow on the ground, Suffolk firefighters were able to quickly put out a house fire in Driver on Sunday.
Firefighters from Suffolk Fire and Rescue and the Driver Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire in a two-story home in the 4500 block of Sleepy Hole Road just before 11 p.m., according to Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George.
When they arrived on the scene, firefighters found smoke inside the home and flames showing on the exterior of the rear of the house. They set to work and were able to extinguish the blaze in 26 minutes, George said in a press release.
There were no injuries in the fire. The home sustained about $15,000 in damage, but firefighters were able to contain the fire to one area, which allowed the 14 family members — including some who were visiting for the holidays — to remain in the home.
George said the fire remains under investigation.
