Former Lady Bulldog makes All-CIAA

Chowan junior guard Ransheda Jennings (King’s Fork) was named All-CIAA (Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) for the 2010-11 women’s basketball season.

Jennings

Twelve players in the league were named to the single all-conference team. Jennings, a 5-foot-7 guard, is one of two CU players as the Lady Hawks are 14-11 overall and 11-6 in conference.

Jennings has started all 25 games so far this season, averaging 16.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 2.7 assists a game.

The CIAA Championships will be held Feb. 28 to March 5 at the Time Warner Cable Arena, the home of the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats.

South Carolina State’s women’s basketball squad earned a 62-49 win over visiting conference foe Norfolk St. Monday evening.

Rasberry

Sophomore guard Trinese Fox (Nansemond River) started for SCSU and had a busy game with eight points on 4-for-4 field goal shooting, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

SCSU (8-16, 4-10 MEAC) goes on a Florida roadtrip, playing at Bethune-Cookman Saturday and at Florida A&M Monday.

On the baseball diamond, Norfolk St. improved to 2-2 on the young season with a 9-4 win over visiting Georgetown Wednesday.

John Rasberry (Greenbrier Christian/Lakeland) hit second in the Spartan order and played left field. Rasberry went 1-for-3 with a walk and scored three runs for NSU.

Ballou

NSU opened the season winning one of three contests against Villanova. The Spartans travel to face Savannah St. Saturday and Sunday.

Sophomore Isaac Ballou (Nansemond-Suffolk) started the season playing center field and hitting leadoff for Marshall as the Thundering Herd opened its season last weekend.

Marshall beat Miami (Ohio) 4-3, beat Kentucky 6-4 and lost to College of Charleston 8-6. Ballou went 3-for-12 with three runs, a double, a triple and an RBI in the three games.

Marshall goes to Nashville for three games versus Lipscomb this weekend.
