Cavs draw Norcom in regional first round

The final VHSL power ratings will be released on Monday but the Cavaliers (7-3) are projected to remain the No. 5 seed and go on the road to No. 4 Norcom (8-2). All of the Division 5 playoff games are tentatively scheduled for Saturday. The Cavaliers and Greyhounds enter the postseason off of losses with Lakeland losing 21-14 at Nansemond River and Lake Taylor clinching the Eastern District title over Norcom Friday night.

Lakeland’s first trip to the postseason since becoming a Group AAA school will start on the road at Eastern District runner-up I.C. Norcom, likely on Saturday.

The Cavaliers (7-3) lost 21-14 at Nansemond River Friday night while Norcom lost 20-14 to Lake Taylor in the deciding game for the Eastern District title.

The Cavaliers are averaging 32.4 points scored per game. Lakeland, winless a season ago, has won seven games for the first time in its 16 seasons in Group AAA and the Southeastern District.

The Div. 5 games are preliminarily slated for Saturday. The Div. 6 quarterfinal games are set for Friday. The official power ratings and schedules will come out Monday.
