Suffolk police arrested a 16-year-old on Saturday after they say he robbed a woman sitting in her vehicle outside a North Suffolk shopping center.
The victim, a T.J. Maxx employee, was sitting in her vehicle taking a break when a teenage subject approached the vehicle and asked for a cigarette lighter, city spokeswoman Debbie George said.
When the woman began looking for a lighter, the suspect stuck a gun in her side and demanded her purse, George said.
The woman grabbed the gun and pushed it away before calling police. Another teen suspect had walked up during the incident, George said.
Police found one of the teenagers walking behind the Kohl’s store. He was detained and a BB gun was recovered, George said.
He is charged with attempted armed robbery, abduction and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
George said police still are seeking the other suspect. He is described as a black, teenage male.
