Police seek eluding suspect

Chesapeake police are seeking a Suffolk man who allegedly fled from an attempted traffic stop Thursday.

Andre Powell, 31, of the 100 block of Erin Drive, is wanted for eluding police, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and multiple traffic violations. Further charges also are pending, according to a press release.

About 10:10 a.m. Thursday, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle at the intersection of Airline Boulevard and Ahoy Drive. The driver allegedly refused to stop, and the officer pursued the suspect into Portsmouth.

The driver stopped in the 600 block of Lancer Court and fled on foot, according to the news release. He entered and left two different apartments in the area, then got into a second vehicle with someone he knew and fled.

Anyone who has information about Powell’s whereabouts is asked to call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. Callers to Crime Line never have to give their names or appear in court, and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
